September 4, 2006 - After losing the first game of their three game series against the Oneonta Tigers, the Baby Bombers fought back last night to claim game two and this evening at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark, the Yankees completed the series victory taking game three from the Tigers by a 3-2 score.

Angel Reyes, making just his third appearance since being recalled from the Gulf Coast Yankees, made the start and was brilliant all night long. Reyes finished the night pitching six strong innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out five. He also earned his first New York - Penn League victory.

Oneonta actually opened up the game’s scoring when Brennan Boesch doubled to lead off their portion of the second inning and Louis Ott singled to bring him home.

The Baby Bombers would not have any of Oneonta’s scoring and retaliated with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the second.

Kyle Larsen started the offensive barrage with a single to left field. After walking Colin Curtis, Wilmer Pino singled which allowed for Larsen to score. Chris Kunda became the game’s hero when he singled and scored both Curtis and Pino. The Yankees’ three runs would hold up and that would be all the scoring the team would need to do.

Oneonta’s only serious threat came in the top of the ninth inning. With Mark Melancon on the mound for the Yankees, Scott Sizemore led off and doubled to the outfield. After two ground outs, Sizemore was able to score and create a stickier situation than Gaylen Pitts had imagined. Luckily, Melancon was able to strike out James Skelton to end the ballgame.

With the victory the Baby Bombers’ magic number now stands at one. With a win tomorrow, against the Tri-City ValleyCats, or an Aberdeen IronBirds loss, the Yankees will claim their second consecutive McNamara Division Championship.

The 2006 regular season now enters its final three games. The Tri-City ValleyCats will be in town for the first of a three game set tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
